Idokorro
presented themselves very well at Admin2004 a few weeks back. I have
been looking at their product (especially Mobile Admin for Domino) for
a number of months now. At first, I was a sceptic. The idea
of administrating Domino servers through the Blackberry Interface seemed
impractical. From looking at the product and talking to the team
in there, my mind was changed.

I am starting to worry that this site
may stop having any technical merit…….. Last one of these, I
promise.
Your file was so big.
It might be very useful.
But now it is gone.
The Web site you seek
Cannot be located, but
Countless more exist.
The Tao that is seen
Is not the true Tao until
You bring fresh toner.
Stay the patient course.
Of little worth is your ire.
The network is down.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.
A crash reduces
Your expensive computer
To a simple stone.
Program aborting:
Close all that you have worked on.
You ask far too much.
Three things are certain:
Death, taxes and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.
Windows NT crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.
You step in the stream
But the water has moved on.
This page is not here.
Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
Out of memory.
We wish to hold the whole sky,
But we never will.
First snow, then silence.
This thousand-dollar screen dies
So beautifully.
Having been crashed
The document you’re seeking
Must now be retyped.
Serious error,
All shortcuts have disappeared.
Screen. Mind. Both are blank.
I am probably the last one to get this
- but I enjoyed it. I think I received each and every one of these
mails.
Thanks to all my friends who sent me
chain letters in 2003!
* I stopped drinking Coca Cola after I found out that it’s good for removing
toilet stains.
* I stopped going to the movies for fear of sitting on a needle
infected with AIDS.
* I smell like a dog since I stopped using deodorants because they
cause cancer.
* I don’t leave my car in the parking
lot or any other place and
sometimes I even have to walk about 7 blocks for fear that someone will
drug me
with a perfume sample and try to rob me.
* I also stopped answering the phone
for fear that they ask me to dial a
stupid number and then I get a phone bill from hell with calls to
Uganda, Singapore and Tokyo.
* I also stopped eating chicken and hamburgers because they are
nothing other than horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers that
are
bred in a lab so that places like McDonalds can sell their Big Macs.
*I also stopped drinking anything out of a can for fear that I will
get sick from the rat feces and urine.
* I also donated all my savings to the Amy Bruce account. A sick girl
that was about to die in the hospital about 7,000 times. Funny that girl,
she’s been 7 since 1993…
* I went bankrupt from bounced checks
that I made expecting the
$15,000 that Microsoft and AOL were supposed to send me when I participated
in
their special e-mail program.
My Ericcson phone never arrived and neither did the passes for a
paid vacation to Disneyland.
* But I am positive that all this is
the cause of a stinking chain
that I broke or forgot to follow and I got a curse from hell.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you don’t send this e-mail to at least 1200 people
in the next 10 seconds, a bird will
crap on you tomorrow at 5 PM…… !!!!

Looks like GMail is starting to cause a big stir. Any takers on how long before Hotmail follows?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/14/yahoo_financial_day/
"Yahoo! used its annual financial analyst day to announce an expanded email service. With Google's beta GMail service grabbing so much attention, Yahoo! will expand the amount of free storage to 100MB per user over the summer, and a rather vague promise of "unlimited" storage for paid users. GMail will offer 1GB of storage and a vastly superior search capability. 100 MB of storage in Yahoo! Mail currently costs $49 a year."

With so much going on, finding time to post is difficult. Plenty of good sessions and features over here.
I went to the IM tricks and tips session hosted by Chris Miller. Chris may remember becuase I was the only one in the session that had taken the Sametime admin exam! The session was very good and confirmed one of my opinions. Very few people are using the Sametime Enterprise Meeting Server. Nobody I have been talking to uses it and it is one hell of an odd piece of software!
I was very glad to hear him mention SIP gateways aswell. I imagine that by Admin 2005, there will be sessions dedicated to that feature.
After that it was off to the LDAP directory services session which was quite informative.
Today, it was off to the session on Blackberry and Domino. It really was an indication of the interest levels as they had to bring in extra seats. The new features of BES 4 (due out in September) are great. Wireless synchronisation with PIM and wireless setup. Lock and erase commands that can be issued from the admin client to the units and much more.
From there to one of the lunch-time product promotions on Mailfrontier. I had not seen this product and it does look quite impressive.
After that, I went to ADSync presentation by Andy Pedisich. I have set it up already and it was nice to hear that he had some of the same issues that I did (one way usage being the main one!)
Another small piece of advice to vendors, especially small vendors. Don't use a customer as a reference site if they have chucked the product, especially if they are at the conference!!!!!!

First Morning Done
Met many people I knew this morning
and attended the opening keynote speech by Mike Rhodin. As expected,
a large part of the presentation was on Workplace and the Workplace client
announcement made on Monday. The only main announcement made was
that the Workplace interoperability for Notes will be available by release
7.0, in Q1 next year. Far from the press reports, the future of Workplace,
Domino and Websphere is well defined and also well on the way…

Sitting having a coffee in the lobby of the Sheraton hotel. I have seen quite a few familiar faces already and have heard a few good things about Libbys presentation today. I haven't spoken to anyone that attended the developer presentation for administrators yet. Everyone is keen and excited to see what will be shown over the coming days. Unfortunately I could not make it to todays presentations and only arrived a few hours ago... Quick trip to the gym to get a bumpy Aer Lingus flight out of the system and down here to check mail etc.
I wish Ireland would catch up on Wireless availability. What is standard in the US is only available in approximately 10 sites in Dublin.
A busy schedule for everyone tomorrow. I aim to post whenever I get an opportunity. Stay tuned folks.

Heading to Boston in the morning for
Admin 2004. Must say I am really looking forward to matching some faces
to sites :-). As I hope to blog from over there, stay tuned for reviews
and opinions. See you in the Shreidan!
Just a question I wanted to put out. Came across VOIP
Ireland today and wanted to
know if anyone has used VOIP for home use. If so, what do they think
of it? The rates are impressive, with a cheap installation rate to
say the least. It costs about 2c per minute for a local call, and
if your buddy has VOIP aswell, unlimited free calls? Its very tempting
to me as I am not a fan of Eircom. Because I have wireless broadband,
I can even get rid of my line rental and give them the proverbial 2 fingers!!!
Any suggestions?
