A
recent
response
to a posting that
I read today.  What is the subject of this blog??  Not too sure
how to respond to such a simple question.  It is a technical blog
mixed in with a few rants I suppose.  If anyone has a better response,
please let me know!

Thanks to Universe
Today
.  I wonder if Doom
would be any good on this…

"NASA unveiled its new supercomputer
on Tuesday, which took the lead as the fasted computer in the world. Named
"Columbia", to commemorate the space shuttle, the supercomputer
is built up from 10,240 Itanium 2 processors, and is capable of 42.7 teraflops
(trillion calculations per second). Columbia is so powerful that scientists
used it to accurately predict the path of hurricanes five days in advance.
Complex aircraft analysis that used to take years can now be performed
in a single day. Amazingly, the computer was built and installed in only
120 days at NASA’s Ames Research Center."

GMAIL blacklisted?

After increasing my blacklist sites
I noticed that GMAIL was being blacklisted

25/10/2004 10:46:05   SMTP Server: Remote host 216.239.56.247
(mproxy.gmail.com) found in blacklist at Relays.osirusoft.com

25/10/2004 10:43:26   SMTP Server: Remote host 216.239.56.244
(mproxy.gmail.com) found in blacklist at orbs.dorkslayers.com

Kinda odd, but the usual DNSBL sites
are fine

ND7 B2 bug (well, it is a beta!)

I only got around to upgrading my server
to ND7 B2 yesterday.  Soon after, I noticed no SMTP mail was inbound.
The error appearing on the console was

"SMTP Server: Authentication is
not enabled in the SMTP Internet Site Document for (blank)"

No SMTP authentication is enabled.  A
quick look-up and I noticed
this
thread
on the ND7 Beta Forum.
It does look like an RC bug.  Disabling the Internet Site feature
in the server document and going back to the older configuration resolves
the issue.  BTW, this aint a complaint.  Apart from that, the
beta is humming along nicely.  At least IBM are on schedule with their
releases.  Ed Brill has
a
lot to say
on the M$ Exchange
betas (or distinct lack of them).

Well as promised, I wanted to share my experiences with Lotus ADSync after
some extensive testing over the week.  I would appreciate any other
thoughts or comments from people that have tested/deployed in their domains

Dear Future Astronaut,

Richard Branson and everyone on the Virgin
Galactic team were delighted to receive your response to the Virgin Galactic
website.

The support shown for this amazing project
has been overwhelming and we will very shortly be in a position to discuss
with you the next steps on your journey to become a Virgin Galactic Astronaut!

Over the next few days we will contact you
again with more details, so there is no need for you to respond to this
message.

Many thanks for your interest in Virgin
Galactic.

Best wishes,

Stephen Attenborough
Head of Astronaut Liaison

Finally got my
Wireless
G Webcam
from Linksys over
the weekend.  The product is impressive, with and easy to use configuration
and a great streaming capacity.  It comes with a pre-configured IP
address and easily joins my existing network.  WEP is supported but
didn’t configure as easily for me until I disabled WEB on my router and
then re-enabled it. Port reconfiguration is simple, and for those with
a fixed IP address, you can configure to view the webcam from the internet
(it also supports password protection for viewing).   The URL is long
and complex, but a simple URL redirection rule on my web site document
gets rid of that issue.
If you don’t have a fixed address, it comes with a 1 year free supscription
to Sololink DDNS service. Motion detect and SMTP notification (straight
to my ND7 server) with an attachment of the motion detected come with the
product.  The only letdown is the cam quality, which could be better.
A non-technical letdown is the poor slipping of service from the
Linksys Chat support site (which I tried to use to help me with the WEP
issue above – useless and slow, and I had it fixed myself before any good
suggestion came along)

I suppose the nice feature of this is that the cam can be placed anywhere
in range of my wireless router, not restricting it to the PC locations.
Now I can watch the dogs chewing the furniture from anywhere in the
world……
