Thanks to Ivor for the image.  Obviously I have blanked out the sender
details.  This is a REAL mail.box file.  Users complained that
the server was crawling and when the administrator checked, nrouter.exe
was running at 99%cpu.  Looking at the mail.box file kinda made it
obvious as to why.  Well, I have never seen a message this size before.
Anyone care to challenge???  PS – The server didn’t crash and
most likely would have eventually routed the mail. Wow!  Any suggestions
on how to deal with the offending user?

As a postscript to this. Again… yes its real! (been asked a few times). This lead to the obvious question on how did the damn user attach 2GB of data to a mail file. Apparently, after the torture, the person said that he selected 60 attachments (the contents of his user directory) and clicked on attach one evening, left the machine and came back the next morning and clicked on send, then went to a workshop meeting. He didn’t think it would be a problem

As part of the save/mail function of memos and responses, we limit the total distributed mail size (mail size x users mailed to) so that large memos do not get sent. We also have an application called Short Term Parking that you can place larger attachments in and then send an email link out out to recipients.

The STP documents are private to the recipients by default and are automatically deleted 8 days after being created.

Good method…… Definately not in use in this place! (which, for the record, I was not looking after)
