Irish Lotus User Group Online

Well guys, its here!

The Irish
Lotus User Group
is now on-line
and waiting your registration. Don’t forget its a work in progress, so
expect some changes over the coming weeks (when I get time).

"The Irish Lotus User Group (ILUG)
is a group of people who share a common interest: We all work with Lotus
Notes, Domino, and related products. Our membership includes administrators,
developers, and users from companies and organizations in the greater area
ranging from small .com startups to Fortune 100 global enterprises. In
addition both Lotus and IBM are represented by several employees as well
as some Business Partners.

The goal of the ILUG is to provide its
membership with valuable information in the form of presentations and demonstrations
of products from Lotus, IBM, and the Business Partner community as well
as a forum to freely discuss any manner of related issues. These issues
range from best practices to 3rd party product recommendations to troubleshooting
and development advice."

You have all been asking for it for
a long time and now is your chance to actively take part in the Lotus environment
in Ireland.  Please, please register and participate.  In the
next few weeks, I will set a date for our first event.  If you want
to attend, register.  If you would like to speak, register.  If
you want to sponsor the event (e.g. a company with a product to sell) register.
My BP hat is off for this event so I will only say this once.. Its
not a Blue Wave Technology event, more a community event.  So for
all the local (and UK based) sites, please register and we can get some
productive event days.  If you have any suggestions or questions,
post them here or on the ILUG site.  Also, anyone who is interested
in helping out on working on this site, just let me know.

Spam comments and anonymous postings

I have got quite a few spam comments
recently and as per usual, the same process applies

  • Track them
  • Report them (for what its worth)
  • Delete the comment

What is the common perception of anonymous
postings though?   Do most bloggers delete them (regardless of content)?
 I know
Volker
does and
Ed
doesn’t approve either.

Getting GPS mapping and Sat Nav in Ireland

My XDA2s is performing well as a work
phone.  That being said, it is in dire need of a ROM upgrade.  It
seems to hang about twice a day, fortunately not when on the phone.  I
have always had an interest in mapping software, as much for the "geek
factor" as from the business perspective and wanted to start getting
a handle on the kit and what I could do with it.  So, what do you
need?

To begin with, you need a GPS receiver and mapping or Sat Nav software.
Be aware that there is a difference; Mapping software tells you "where
you are" whist Sat Nav can direct you from point A to B (and a lot
more).  Also, as I am only messing around I was not prepared to go
full whack on buying Tom Tom etc.

Server Crashes continued…

I only really got some time to look
at

this issue
yesterday.  From
examining the Domlog.nsf file, I could tell that every time my server "panicked",
there seemed to be a corresponding hit from *.
inktomisearch.com.
These are coming from various IP addresses.  I blocked a few
of them from accessing the site and so far, little old Fedora seems to
be staying up.

Of course I am lining myself up here
for a kick in the teeth……
