When you ask someone to pop memory into their laptop

Don’t give them the laptop with the lid closed, watch them turn it upside down, open it up, pop in another 1GB of RAM, close it up… and then tell them the laptop was still on.  How nothing got blown is still a mystery to me.

So much going on…. so little time

Well – anybody that says there are no IBM events in Europe/UK should really be quiet by now. On September 7th with have the Scottish Lotus User Group event, which already has a very strong speaker list, and has gained quite a lot of interest.  Guys, this is a Thursday in Edinburgh…. There will be a geekdinner afterwards and then many many drinks.  It is cheap to get to from Dublin or just about any UK/Irish city.  Sessions are to be confirmed but I will definitely be there!  Mail Claire Woodbry to register a seat.  As far as I can see, they are going quick.

Aside from that, we have the amazing
Collaboration University event on September 27th – 29th in London.  Have you seen the speaker list?!,  This is a "must go to" event for anyone that deals with Sametime/Quickplace.  I can see they are offering a $400 discount on anyone that registers now.  You should!  Hats off to Rob Novak and company for arranging this line-up.  Very impressive.

After that, there is the Dutch Lotus User group event on October 11th.  We are going to be pretty busy in the coming months!

What did you get in the post today?

Well, if it wasn’t a parcel containg a golf club (stolen from my home), a chocolate "nessie", a block of wood and a rubber chicken, all of which wrapped up to hell and back with sticky tape, you just don’t impress me.  It came from Scotland…..  Methinks revenge is needed.

Right – I’ve noticed the complete lack of technical posts.  Will rectify that very soon.

The videos of the ILUG session are now available on Google Video

Credit is totally Warren’s
in this case.  Not only did he film the events, he also compressed them and posted them for us on Google Video.  He has put up a link to all video streams here.

Websphere Portlet Factory

As I said in the earlier post, we just spent two days doing a “deep dive” into WPF. This has proved to be a most interesting product, which brings a new level to Rapid Application Deployment on Websphere Portal Server. So, if you are interested in surfacing your domino applications (and other things) into a portal environment, quickly, with minimum fuss… read on…

Bloggers opinions required for upcoming technical conference

Over the past two days, I have been involved in a Websphere Portal and Websphere Portlet Factory "deep dive" in IBM Hursley.  More on that later.  Here, I happened to bump into Tim Clark, from the IBM Innovation Centre.  We met at Lotusphere in January and he has all sorts of interesting jobs and stories.  Over coffee, we got talking about an idea of his.   We started to bounce it around and I think its a cracking good idea.  Although I cannot give specifics, it is related to a IT related conference that *some* of us attend once a year.   How about making the technical lab of this conference a bit more scenario based.. using all the latest tools interactively.  He is looking for input from the community.  Take a few minutes and give your thoughts.  You may see them in reality in say.. oh….6 months or so….
