The self-deleting stcore.jar file

This is an odd one.   Support call
today for a recent Sametime 7 installation.  The customer had not
touched the server since I set it up, and only rebooted it.  After
reboot, Sametime won’t work and this error appears in the log file:

Well, after a bit of digging, I found
a
blog
post
with a similar error.  It
seems the stcore.jar disappeared from the \lotus\domino directory.  Get
another copy of the file, pop it in, and all is well.

One for the strange basket!

Firefox web forgery popup

Taken when I (intentionally) went to a fake Ebay site. This is the first time I have seen this screen, but it is good to know this can happen to protect “normal” users.

ILUG 2007 – here we go again!

Ok guys, here we go again.  Eileen
and I are gluttons for punishment.
Ok, we are starting to put together some ideas for this event.  As
promised, we hope to make it two days long, and still plan to keep it as
a free event.  We are trying to find a date that does not get in the
way of US or European attendees.  So, can ANYONE think of a reason
why either of these days will NOT work.  Any public holidays or events
(lotus ones) that will prevent people attending?

17th-18th May 2007

24th-25th May 2007

We are hoping to get 150 people to attend
this one, keeping in mind the excellent reviews and interest generated
from the last one. All sponsors have provisionally agreed to sponsor again,
but in order to fund this non-profit gig, we will need more (anyone reading
that wants to help out in that area????).

As for speakers…..
DO NOT THINK I FORGOT ABOUT THIS POST
,
and comments last June.  I will plague you guys at Lotusphere, and
you have plenty of notice for rooms, flights etc.  Use it as a stage
for "experimental" sessions if you will, but I promise to throw
in tours, beers etc in Dublin.
Mr
Miller
, Mr
Duff
, Bill,
Warren
and Kathleen
have already provisionally agreed
to speak… and I would love to see a few more there.

So, please let me know what  you
think.  We know what did and (more importantly) didn’t work last time…
so hope to improve on the event.

What makes a grown consultant cry

… About to backup approximately 40
hours of Lotusphere prep work (including VMware images, documents and rough
presentations) to your terastation, and the external drive stopping to
read all data….only resolved by formatting it, and losing everything.

Yeah…… that just about does it

Worst Practices 2 (The revenge)

As announced by Bill and I last week,
Lotus have agreed to allow us have our bit of fun again at Lotusphere with
another Worst Practices session.  As you all know the stories are
true, and we are still looking for some submissions on classical screw
ups that could have been prevented with a bit of thought and education.
 The
Worst
Practices website
is established
now, and we are still looking for some more stories, that if good (or bad)
enough, will be discussed in Orlando!  Obviously, anonymity is guarenteed.
Head on over and submit a story, or just email me with one.

Also, this year we will have a pre-show
presentation, with a few slides… One I have in mind is "suggested
titles for this presentation".  Any ideas?

New Toy

Well – RIM were good enough to send
me a Blackberry Pearl to review.  Methinks they are trying to move
me from the Windows Smartphone(s) of which I have had many over the years.
At the moment, it is charging and looking very slim and pretty.  I
doubt I will get much chance to work on it until the weekend, but hoping
to see what it is like in enterprise mode, by connecting to my company’s
BES.  This will be my first Blackberry.  Although I do a lot
of work with the Blackberry Servers and configuring, upgrading, moving
them, I have always stayed clear of the unit, preferring to play with the
Windows mobile devices.  Should be interesting looking at the other
side for the first time.
