SpeedGeek Agenda

Here are the sessions and speakers so
far chosen for Speedgeeking.  If you want to be added to the list
email speedgeek@ilug2007.org with an abstract.  You may want to look
below.  Mary Beth is doing a session on Notes 8.5!

I will update the SPEEDGEEK
page on the ILUG event with confirmed
sessions.

"Notes is like an onion…It’s
got Layers!" –
Chris
Blatnick

Join Shrek and Donkey for a fun-filled
look at some cool uses for layers in the Notes client. We can stay up late,
swapping manly stories and in the morning, I’m making waffles!

Cool things to do with layers:

 - Cascading menus in the Notes
client

 - Popup abstract and dialogs

 - Using layers with embedded elements

 - and more…

Of course, I can leave out the Shrek
stuff and it will still be cool!

Building the ultimate Sametime 7.5.1
architecture in fast fashion  -

Chris Miller

Want to see all the required components to toss together a redundant, scalable
and easily managed Sametime 7.5.1 architecture? Then bring your ears and
try and keep up

Tell me what you want in Notes 8.5
-

Mary Beth Raven

Yes, even tho Notes 8 has not shipped yet, I’m already working on Notes
8.5!
You’ll get to "speed-prioritize" features I give you  (written
on a set of cards) plus add your own.
The cards will be flying! I’m taking lessons in how to shuffle and deal
quickly so we can get through as many cards/features as possible!

DevBlast – Bill

the code monkeys and tries to annoy the adminblast session.

AdminBlast -

the code monkeys with this session.  30 tip for administrators…
Developers not welcome (we make fun of them anyway).

Add Mail Merge to your Address Book
and applications in under 5 minutes!  -
John
Head

In 300 seconds, we will show you how to add Mail Merge functionality …
Letters, Labels, and Envelopes Oh My! … to your Personal Name & Address
Book and your own Notes Applications. Using an application on OpenNTF.org,
you will add a single agent to your databases that provides the functionality.
Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Writer are both supported!

Domino and Open Source Toolkits -
It’s a Steal
-
Rob
Novak

Free code has never been better – in a preview of my session late Friday
afternoon, I’ll blow through the web-based demos at ludicrous speed, exhibiting
what you can do with Domino and at least 5…no 6…maybe 7 different freely
available JavaScript toolkits.  Good developers know how and what
to code.  Great ones know when they don’t have to.  Be a great
developer…!

Decision-Making: Quantified, Objectified
and really, really Simplified
- Deborah Latter
Management aren’t making the most effective decisions and you don’t know
what to do.
Give me 5 minutes. I’ll show you how leveraging Notes the right way can
help.

Top 10 Things You Wish Your Boss
Understood About IT  -
Kevin
Pettitt

Any Notes Administrator or Developer can make a mistake, but to really
screw things up requires management intervention.  Come join us for
a sometimes humorous but always subversive look at common IT management
misconceptions, and maybe learn how to set your boss straight.

Things to know before you go to ILUG

Things to know before you go to ILUG

  • If you cannot attend, email events@ilug2007.org
and let us know.  I want to give the seat to someone else.  Please
    do not waste your seat.

  • We are at fire regulation limit.  Walk
in arrivals will not be accepted on the day.  If you have not registered
and received a confirmed email, I cannot really help you out!

  • If you are on the waitlist and I can
get you a seat, I will mail you and let you know.  If you don’t an
email for me, I couldn’t get you a seat.

  • If you are flying in, why not post your
arrival times in the wiki.  Then you can meet others in the airport
and travel to the city together.

  • Dress code – CASUAL – its a User Group!
  • Times… check the agenda but be there
early!.  On the morning of the event, if you are willing to turn up
early and help out, it would be much appreciated!

  • Sessions – some of the sessions will
be full, and you will most likely not get into all the sessions you want
to attend.  I would suggest you grab a seat for sessions early.

  • Speakers… talk to them!  Buy
them beer! They came over to speak.

  • Geekdinner on the Friday night – click
    here
    for details.  Don’t ask us
on the day for a seat at the dinner.  Book it in advance.

  • Geektrip – click here.
Again, don’t ask us on the day for a seat.  Book it in advance.

  • If you want to compliment the organisation
of the event – talk to
    Eileen.
If you have a complaint, come to me (I will give you a full refund
    of your attendance conference fee).

  • SPONSORS – buy their stuff!  They
    are paying for the event.

  • Prize draw at the end of the event.
Sponsors will all supply a small prize.  You give them your
business card, you get entered in their draw.  Draw occurs at the
end of the second day.  If you are not there and your name is called
    out, you don’t win.

  • Talk to the people there.  There
are visitors from 20 countries!  If you are thinking about a solution
to a business problem, odds are that someone has done it already, and they
    may be there.

  • Talk solutions… don’t talk products.
I find that always makes your conversations more productive.

  • A few of us will be very busy on the
day – be sure to help us out if we are trying to move you out of a room
    or get things sorted.

Scottish Notes User Group

The SNUG’s second event is being held
this Thursday, 3rd May 2007 in the George Hotel in Edinburgh.  For
a one day event, it is packed with sessions.  So much was crammed
in that the second half of the day has been split into two tracks.  This
event is FREE to attend.  If you want to reserve a seat, contact
Claire
Woodbury
in IBM.  I will
be giving a version of my Adminblast presentation, while in the other room,
Bill will be presenting Devblast.  If you can make it to the event,
you are nuts to not attend.  This is free education.  Hell, I’m
going just to watch some of the presentations.

Websphere Portal Server 6.0 Installation. Part 6

Its been a while since I had something
like this done.  So, part six on the Websphere Portal Server and Domino
integration document is now done.  This section assumes that you have
followed all the other steps.  Now you have to tell Websphere Portal
server to use domino LDAP for security.  Go to my

resources page
for part six.

Enjoy and comments welcome.

Lotusphere 2008 session at ILUG

Yep, you read it correct.  Kristin
Keane
Keene from IBM (the person that has a LOT to do with arranging
Lotusphere) is planning to have two special sessions during lunch break
at ILUG.  Details will be forthcoming, but the rough agenda is:

Lotusphere 2007 – a review and round-up.
What worked, what didn’t, lessons learned.

Lotusphere 2008 – some of the new changes
and events being planned at Lotusphere 2008.  Some information on
abstracts and some changes coming (you will be interested).

Lotusphere on-line – a review of last
‘Sphere’s service and lessons learned.

Now, Kristin and I have spoken about
this, and she is well aware that ILUG will contain some of the most opinionated
people in the community.  I hope you don’t mind having a lunchtime
session (I will supply food), and giving your feedback.

Can you help here…  If there
was something you would like to suggest to discuss about the next Lotusphere,
what would it be?  These guys are willing to listen.

Drinks Reception at ILUG

Please note on the Thursday evening
(end of Day 1 of ILUG) there will be a drinks reception, sponsored by IBM
at a nearby bar.  Details will follow.   We plan to start that
soon after speedgeeking.

GeekTrip at ILUG

Ok, considering the amount of people
attending this event from outside of Ireland, we thought the least we could
do is give something back to those that have travelled in.  So, on
the Saturday morning after ILUG, there is a free Coach trip (with guide)
of Dublin city.  This will pick up and return at a designated sport
in the city.  It finishes at approximately lunchtime.

But there’s more.  After that,
the Coach will bring people out to some of the more scenic areas around
Dublin and Wicklow, aiming to have you back by 6pm on the Saturday evening.
Again, this is free of charge and SEATS ARE LIMITED.

Now, if you want to go, mail geektrip@ilug2007.org
stating how many seats you want.
