Made me laugh

Murphy’s Lesser Known Laws

  1. Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

  2. Change is inevitable, except
    from a vending machine.

  3. Those who live by the sword
get shot by those who don’t.

  4. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently
    talented fool.

  5. The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you
have a 50-50 chance of getting
something right, there’s a 90% probability you’ll get it wrong.

  6. If you lined up all the cars
in the world end to end, someone would
be stupid enough to try to pass them, five or six at a time, on a hill,
    in
    the fog.

  7. Things that come to those who
wait will be the scraggly junk left
by those who got there first.

  8. The shin bone is a device for
finding furniture in a dark room.

  9. A fine is a tax for doing wrong.
A tax is a fine for doing well.

  10. When you go into court, you
are putting yourself into the hands of
12 people who weren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Lotusphere registration is out!

A picture named M2

Here we go guys… Get signed up for
the geekfest of the year with discount pricing until November.  Its
quite sad to say that I have had more fun at this event then I have had
at some holidays.  Its just a great week and you are mad to miss it.

iPhoto – is it just me that it doesn't like?

It must be, because everyone I know
loves it, but iPhoto just does not seem to like me.  I have upgraded
to iPhoto08 and again, I lost all my pictures.  Not to mention that
iPhoto has crashed on me quite a few times.

I have totally uninstalled iPhoto and
the library now.  Will reinstall and add the photos again, but this
is baffling.  I’m sure I have hardly any photos compared to the likes
of Volker or Warren or Matt.   I dunno…..

The first Domino 8 conference

A picture named M2

The more I play with the Domino 8 server,
the more like what it can do.  It has not even coughed since beta
1 for me and the new features in the product are (to me) simply stunning.
You see, Im an admin weenie.  That dev stuff just doesn’t interest
me (okok deep breath guys….).   Domino will always just impress
me with its ability to run on many platforms and support many many services,
and it is still unmatched on the marketplace as a server product.

Now, Domino 8 really has upped the Lotus
game.  And now the best place to go learn what it can do for you is
at
Collaboration
University in London and Kansas in September
r.
I am going to London (I wouldn’t miss it).  This event is pure
gold for deep dive technical people.  You have easy access to the
best in the business.  Seriously… book the event and go.  You
will not regret it.

"Before the kids go back to school"

Connections shall support Domino LDAP
"
before
the kids go back to school
".
In fact it was "written in stone".  Well, the kids
must be getting a long break this year, because apparently Domino LDAP
support for connections will not be available until 1.02, released end
of October.

I’m not going to keep this rant going,
as there has been very many positives from the Lotus Notes/Domino
releases over the past week.  But if I did keep this rant going, I
would feel like I had every right to.   Especially when I was told
very recently something different.

Well, I will steer clear until it is
supported, but that gives me time to finish my Notes 8/ Quickr / Sametime
integration document that will be posted free to download.

Going forward in time…

Posts say the 18th August.  But
its the 17th.  From where I am, I cannot alter this for the moment,
but my new server for ND8 is in the future at the moment.  I have
two choices really:

Alter the time continuum and bring everyone
to the 18th August (I reckon that would really piss off Lotus considering
the importance of the 17th August 2007).

or

Fix the time setting on the server.

Due to personal time constraints I will
just go the slightly easier path and fix the time on the server, this time
;).

ND8 is out now!

Downloading Notes 8, Domino 8, LEI 8 as we speak. My server will be running it about 15 minutes after the download is complete. Thats the beauty of the Domino codebase. I do this with a smug confidence that all will be fine in the upgrade. Of course production business sites should go through the usual upgrade process, but we already kinda know “it will just work”.

Router woes….

Well, my router packed up again today,
blocking http requests inbound only (port 80 aswell funnilly enough).  So
before scrapping it, I have tried reflashing it with  the
DD-WRT
image.  It definately has given me some more options, and the interface
is way better.  Next is to move my domino server to newer hardware,
which is planned for tomorrow night. If this does not pay off, I’m changing
to hosting offiste.  One thing that is getting more attractive now
is actually scrapping my broadband network at home and switching over to
a
mobile
broadband option
, that I can just
take with me.  Its rapidly coming down in price and mobility is a
plus.

More announcements

Things are starting to hot up.  Its
only August and the
call
for abstracts for Lotusphere 2008 are out.

Look at posts from the past few years, its quite funny.  There
is about a 5-6 month run up to Lotusphere, where the features to be announced
are discussed/rumoured, people talk about what they want to see, and if
they are speaking, what they wil be talking about.  Then there is
a lull for a few weeks in December/January, as everyone is on holidays
… or up to their t**s getting their labs/sessions ready.  Then…
bam!  Its Lotusphere baby!

And here we go…

Yup, the 17th August is the go date
for ND8.  IBM announed it
here
and it has been blogged just about
everywhere!  Contrary to my downbeat posts recently regarding Louts
Lotus stuff, I must say I cannot wait to get the product out there.  Now
its coming along, there are many features that people including me have
been dying for.  Now the clock is ticking… lets see who has it downloaded
first (a geek race)
