When studying for the Domino 8 Admin
exam, I came across this little clustering gem.
Most sites that avail of Domino clustering
use a the Server_Cluster_Default_Port setting, to force cluster replication
to route through a NIC (or team of NIC’s) that is different to the public
facing NIC. But, what if the cluster communication fails? Up
until now, that meant that cluster replication failed, which is one (but
not the only) reason why you would have a backup replication connection
document between cluster servers using the public ports.
Now you can add in Server_Cluster_Auxilary_Port=
line into your server’s notes.ini. This selects a backup port for
cluster replication if the primary (default) port is not available.
Setting it to Server_Cluster_Auxilary_port=*
tells the cluster task to cycle through all available ports to find one
that it can cluster replicate through. Nice touch on resilience!
