Merry Christmas

Well, I have been quiet over the past
week, but I just wanted to wish both readers a happy and peaceful Christmas.
I spent mine in Belfast, and in Dublin and ate and drank too much
as ever.  I have a year in review post to get done, but there are
a lot of pots on the boil at the moment, but I will get it out there, plus
a few other things in early January.

Best Wishes.

P.

Has Skype ever fully recovered?

Skype
is now the primary IM client for
me.  I like it.  A lot.  On August 16th, there was a major
SNAFU
that caused almost total service
loss for everyone.  It took days to recover.  Just recently,
I am wondering if it ever did fully recover.  Since then, I have frequently
come across problems with seeing people on-line.  This happened before
the crash in August, but was quite rare to me.  All too often I have
to logout and back in again so people can see me, or vice versa.  Aside
from that, I just noticed a few other quirks that seem to pop up.  Of
course, this could easily be realted to the Mac client, or lepoard, but
from talking to some people, I’m not convinced.

So, anyway, my question is, is it just
me?

Testing some posts

I had some blogsphere issues this evening, and have hopefully resolved them. This post is a photo taken from the cable car in Barcelona (proof to Volker that even with a good view, I cannot take a good photo). I may have lost a few comments, so apologies for that.

Foldershare hiccup

"From 12/3/07 to 12/6/07, some
files may have been accidentally moved from their original folders into
the FolderShare Trash folder. The bug that caused this problem has been
fixed.

The only files affected are ones with names containing certain characters,
such as accents, trademark signs, etc. For example, “España.jpg.”"

Click here for details, but I checked
mine and there approx 100 files that I needed to pull out of the trash.

Admin2007 finished

Its email catchup day in Barcelona before
I fly home.  Considering all the fun the other speakers have had so
far getting home, I’m kinda afrad of the trip to Dublin!   Overall,
it was a very well run, and very well received event.  The sessions
were very fast paced and suitably deep.  The venue was fantastic,
with a fantastic price tag for just about anything!  10Euro a beer
is *not* a way to encourage me to drink there.  I have a lot of follow
up questions asked, so please, if I don’t get back to you, drop me a line
and remind me.  Some thoughts:

  • The Admin team work very very hard -
    remember that.

  • Susan Harding *can* present from now
on, as we proved when she gave the last slide of my session.  Not
    that she had a choice.

  • Having Adminblast presented by me, Bill,
Warren, Andy, Francie, Susan is mayhem, but fun.

  • Julian cannot dance.
  • Americans cannot pronounce words correctly.
  • Miller is the blur you see from time
to time, running to another session.

  • Rob Axelrod is a very funny bloke.
  • Ask Julian about his porky pig impression.
  • Spanish spanky scored!
  • Show schedule was once again a success
    (don’t ask)

  • Barcelona is a great city.  I will
    come back on a holiday.

  • All speakers have had bad Karma trying
to get home, we all blame the "should be on a bad luck watchlist"
    Francie for this.

  • Vodka is stronger here… or at least
you get a  hell of a lot more in a drink

  • Blackberry have some cool stuff coming
    downstream.

More to follow when I catch up on mails
etc…. I have a few technical posts to blog about aswell.

Admin2007 Barcelona

Sitting beside Susan

in Francie Whitlocks presentation on database and document corruption.
So far, its been a hectic week, with plenty to get done since our
announcement
a
few days ago.
Warren
is keeping a tab on all blog posts
related to the acquisition.  To take a look, click
here.
In relation to this venue, well it seems to be going very well for
speakers, organisers and attendees alike.  Plenty of deep sessions
to get to for everyone.

From my perspective, three sessions
completed, one "ask the admin" (or beat the geek), a few beers
and good conversations.  Barcelona is a lovely city… well ok.. that’s
a lie.  So far, I have been outside in the fresh air once since I
came into the hotel.  I hope to get to see some of this place on Thursday.
Three more sessions and a lunch-time "ask the admin" to
go before we are finished.
