Laptop bag of choice for Lotuspherians..

You can always tell quality kit.  Not
from advertising, not even from word of mouth, but from people with selective
tastes chosing the same equipment.  At lotusphere this year, a few
of us began to notice we all had the same laptop backpack.
Julian
Robichaux
, Daniel
Nashed
, myself and many others
had all, by our own reasoning, purchased
Wegner
Swissgear
laptop bags.  These
are the same guys that bring you the Swiss Army Knife.   All of us
completely agreed on their quality.  Considering the opinionated little
bunch we are, completely agreeing on anything is a rarity.   My bag
has to be durable and strong.  It has flown everywhere with me for
over a year.  It’s almost an extension of my shoulder and contains
pretty much everything I need to work from anywhere.

A picture named M2

The build quality, space, design, comfort
and practicality of the bag, combined with
a
very reasonable price
easily puts
it as the best laptop bag I have ever owned.  I have spent a LOT more
money on laptop bags in the past, and had them last six months before straps
go and zips break.

When discussing, we all agreed that
we will keep our bags until they break, and then buy another one.  That’s
pretty much the best endorsement that you can give.

<nods>, it was quite strange to see so many of the same brand, but they are sooo good

I have also a “Wegner Swissgear laptop bag” and agree with you all. Thats definitely one from the best bags I had in the past.

I will not be picky but: “on April 26, 2005, Victorinox acquired Wenger … Victorinox has stated that it intends to keep both brands intact.” regarding to wikipedia Emoticon.

Yes very good though sadly not Labrador proof. Barney ate through one strap but the other looks as good as new. Because it’s so sturdy it looks like I’ll have to put up with a one strap bag for ages yet.

Is anything truly Labrador proof? They will eat anything – I remember the Lab who had eaten 36 golf balls, he was looking very sorry for himself after the operation.

Got a Swissgear suitcase and that’s pretty nice, solid and well thought out design.

I´ll recommend a Crumpler bag anytime, and a few of them even comes in Lotus colors Emoticon This one, with room for a DSLR carema and a laptop is a very cool example of a brilliant Cumpler bag.

    YES! Tough as steel. Best bag I’ve ever owned, and I have at least 7 non-Lotusphere bags in spitting distance from my desk. Here’s my baby: { Link }

I need a bag so I looked at this wee chap.

There are loads of different ones on Amazon. Some are £70, some are £30. No discernible difference. Am I missing something?

I personally would rather have a backpack laptop bag as other over the shoulder laptop bags tend to fall off my shoulder and are cumbersome to carry.

I’ve always liked the way the Brenthaven bags fit my Apples so remarkably well, and I like that I don’t HAVE to zip the top to hold the thing securely, which means at airports I can whip the laptop out of the bag and put it back in there in an instant. No straps, flaps or zippers.

I bought that Swissgear bag (about 70 or 80 USD at the time) in 2007 for our Europe vacation/research trip. Served me very well as daily bag for my ThinkPad after that too. Then shlepped it around Lotusphere in 2008 all the time but don’t think I saw many that had one like it then.

Glad Paul and others caught up with me. Emoticon

Unfortunately I didn’t make it to LS09, but as my wife is now traveling more for business and carries her laptops around, I somehow lost possession of that swissgear bag and have to use the not so swell LS08 bag… Emoticon

@3 @4, even before the acquisition, both brands were suppliers to the Swiss Army. In fact, they split their sourcing 50/50, and allowed one to claim “original” and one to claim “geniune”…

I will get one of those bags, but my LS06 bag for now is hanging on nicely as the best bag IBM ever gave away at Sphere.

Julian, what model of backpack is that in your picture.

Looks much better than Paul’s model.

    Thanks!

My bag is “The Marlet”. I just checked on Amazon (US) and you can still get one (for $29.88, which is about $20 less than what I paid early last year).

Mine doesn’t have the cool steel cord running through the handle that Paul’s does, but it’s still very solid. I also really like that it sits straight up when you put it on the ground — no tipping over or slouching.

I’m actually a big fan of the LS07 bag. I’ve been using it every day for 2 years now I guess. Shoulder straps have picked up a little dirt, bottom right corner is just now starting to wear enough that I’ll probably have to change out soon.

I’ve got the Swissgear luggage for my carry on and have been very happy with it. Guess I’ll have to check out the laptop bag when LS07 finally wears out.

Totally agree. My daughter bought me one the birthday before last (March 2007). It still looks like new.

The only thing I don’t get are the ferruled holes in the side: they let water in (and out of course)

leather padded laptop bags are the best to use since they can absorb shock and prevent moisture buildup “

Luggage can be your companion if you travel around. Never pick just a cheap piece of luggage. Go with a brandname known for quality, as an example Samsonite or Wenger luggage.
