It's Sysadmin day
"Let’s face it, System Administrators
get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System
Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports
cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But
seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement.
It’s the least you could do. "
Say thank you to your sys admin. He
may burst into tears or simply not understand the statement.
Lazyweb – playing music from iPhone 3g through car stereo
The problem with searching online a lot
of time is that there are so many conflicting answers, hence the lazyweb
question. I have a car (paired over bluetooth with my berry storm
and my iphone for calls). What I want is the ability to play music
from my iphone through my car stereo. It doesn’t have to be bluetooth,
it doesn’t have to be radio based (My experience with them has been poor),
it just has to be good and reliable. I had one fitted yesterday that
apparently "worked" until I tested it and it didn’t. So
it had to be removed.
So, do you play music from your iPhone
through your car stereo, and if so, how and is it any good?
Methinks someone has made slight changes to my IAMLUG profile
Made me laugh (click on image to be brought
there). While you are scrolling down to find what they wrote about
me, take a look at the other people speaking. Very, very impressive.
851 to be released Mid-October?
Taking Ed’s comment on my
last post to the literal extreme,
the product will be released around 9th/10th October. Of course there
is zero way of putting that date in stone.
85 FP1 is out
With thunderous applause the 85 FP1 update
is out (get it here).
I must say that the server build has been very solid so far but I
am delighted to get my hands on updates for the client software. But
of course, I have to have a gripe (sorry IBM). Here it is. What is
wrong with this picture?
Give you a hint.
I was hoping something would of changed by now. Anyways, off
to test the update.
Google Latitude for iPhone released
Quite a while behind other smartphones,
Google have released latitude for the iPhone. From your device, go
to google.com/latitude and then sign in.
You will be asked to share your
location with safari and it is recommended you bookmark the link then so
you can update your location with a single click.
Or in other words, google latitude is
just a browser application on the iPhone as wont support background applications.
If you want to update your location, you have to go into the site
and update it. Still, its better then nothing and the interface is
good.
Worst Lotus Products ever?
Related to the last post, what are the
three Lotus Product that drove you most crazy/nuts over the years, and
you were delighted to see them cease to exist.
Reverse order (drumrolls)
3. A special nod has to go to Lotus
Notes 5.0 release (the first 5.x release) for actually impressing me on
how many bugs could be placed into a product when released into the wild.
I have that product to thank for aging about 5 years in 6 months.
2. Lotus Virtual Classroom. The
bastard child of Quickplace and Sametime that almost (read: didnt) work.
And I spent a lot of time on this pig.
1. Like a bullet into first place.
Lotus Workplace (and all Lotus workplace products) was
a steaming pit of despair for many Business Partners and bleeding edge
adopters. Not so much for the real world, as they just took a look,
saw the config required, terrible scaling and limited functionality and
in a brief moment of clarity said "no fucking way – its a piece of
shit". When killed off eventually this 3 year multi million
pig was branded as an experiment. The damage done to the Lotus Notes
product due to neglect was extensive as it gave other firms a lot of time
to catch up on functionality.
Other nods must go to Websphere 3.0
(I know its not Lotus), the iNotes offline sync tool on the client used
with webmail.
Best Lotus Products ever?
The infamous UKLUG skype chat brought this
up. What is your favour Lotus Product ever? If you want to
include Lotus Notes thats fine, but you don’t have to (or you can include
a version). Here is my top 3.
1. – Lotus Organiser.
By a loooonnnnnggg mile the best little
personal CAL product of its time. I just loved it. Used it
for everything. Quick, simple, designed to look like a filofax. It.just.worked.
2. – Lotus 123.
Fantastic, ground breaking spreadsheet
application. The sole reason that MS Excel had any good features.
3. – Lotus Freelance
Only up until recently (until I was
a mac user) I still used Lotus Freelance. I loved it – simple, quick
and powerful for creating presentations.
Special nods to Lotus Traveler (it just
works), Lotus Learninspace, Aptrix and even Domino.doc in certain cases.
My Lotususergroup interview is online
During my leave last week (yes I know,
sad) I did what was supposed to be a 5 minute interview with Erin from
Lotususergroup.org. It ended up being approx 25 minutes and consisted
of many things including:
- GSX information
- Services information
- Advice on upgrades
- random weird stuff
- My post about the online awareness of
MJ’s death.
Yes, it was weird, but fun. Take
a listen here.
