Wonder why motorbikes drive fast?

Finishing my house-move week so popped
out for a quick run on my CBF600.  A note for motorists.

Ever wonder or scorn at the motorbikes
that fly off at the lights and jump ahead of the traffic?  What are
they up to?  What are they trying to prove?  Are they just assholes?
 Well, here is why.

They want to live.

Tonight I had two cars try to mow me
down by deciding to change lanes after pulling off at the lights.  I
just happened to be in the lane they wanted to wander into.  On both
occasions I beeped and accelerate to get away from the muppet.  As
a novice biker I am now the guy that pulls away quickly just so I can stay
away from cars.

Pimp my iPhone

For the record – not my iPhone.  Most
horrendous phone cover ever?

An 851 rollout

This weekend, we completed our first 851
rollout.  5 Domino servers (2 in a cluster, a BES server and 2 others)
supporting many users.  851 client rollout tested and planned.  Smart
upgrade, policies, DAOS, IDVault, iNotes, Sametime integration and more.
 Here’s the kicker.

It all worked.  All of it.  Almost
without any issues.  851 definitely feels more solid, more reliable
and gives the business partners a hell of a lot more confidence in the
product then any previous 8.x build.

Its been a busy week

Along with the day job, getting ready for
DANNOTES, TristateLUG,  Lotusphere Prep and planning for another Philippines
trip, I am also getting ready to move home, starting this weekend.  So
expect little, if any posts of value until end of next week.

Speaking at user group events in Denmark and New York

I have been asked to present at the
DANNOTES
conference on the 3rd
November and also the
TristateLUG
conference in New York on 9th November.  More details on each conference
will be blogged here as I get them, but both of those will be a first for
me, so I can’t wait.

Downloading 851

With intelligent filenames (hurrah) and
not a moment too soon.  I start working with this build on a customer
site tomorrow.

UKLUG wrap up

UKLUG was, to put it simply, the most professional
LUG conference I have been to.  Brilliant logistics, excellent food,
everyone taken care of, great sessions, fantastic atmosphere, and a speaker
list that you would only see at the biggest IBM conferences.  Its
hard to put it any other way.  Simply brilliant.  Warren et al
outdid themselves.  I remember a few years ago people complaining
about "no Lotus conferences".  On Friday I heard a complaint
about "too many Lotus conferences".

Fixing Lotus Notes (or any mac application) that has disappeared off screen

This  has happened to me with Lotus
Notes quite a few times.  Using an external monitor at home, I sleep
the Mac then open up later without a monitor connected.  Lotus Notes
is still loaded, but I can’t see it.  If I even reboot I can launch
Lotus Notes but then is disappears again.  Playing with screen resolutions
just doesn’t work.  I found the solution
here
on the wonderful Macosxhints site.
Executing the script gathers the windows for me.  Alternatively,
I have helped the lazy people and saved a script file here.  Just
download
this,
launch it and click on run.

Before the "notes sucks" people
march in, a cursory google tells me that it happens to a lot of apps.

UKLUG frenzy is picking up

It’s shaping up to be a very big, very
good event already.  Hundreds of people marching to Edinburgh as we
speak, all planning to converge in the Radisson for two days of Geekery.
A cursory search of twitter shows a people en-route already.

With Tripit, google latitude and twitter,
its hard for people to NOT know where you are these days.  I arrive
in EDI at 6pm approximagely, with Steve and Rob (plus Joan) McDonagh.  When
are you arriving?
