ILUG2010 planning begins

Yup… the planning has begun for ILUG2010.
Details are still very rough, but here are some starters:

  • It will be in November 2010.  Not
our usual May, but personal reasons make May a bad choice.

  • It will be 3 days long
  • It will be multi track
  • We will require sponsors
  • The usual suspects have signed up to
    help out.

  • It will be a lot of fun
  • It is not for profit
  • It will be free to attend
  • We will need speakers
  • Casual and technical mood is mandatory
  • Bad language is encouraged
  • There will be beer

We will firm up on the details in the
very near future (hopefully end of next week) with sponsor information
etc.  One thing we wanted to ask the crowd was about venue.  Dublin
    or Belfast.

    Dublin:

  • Eileen lives near there
  • I am from there
  • Fantastic city
  • Cheap airport
  • Not as cheap to stay in (but cheaper
    then last time)

  • Big city
  • Great weekend venue
  • Metric shitload of bars
  • Metric shitload of history
  • Metric shitload of things to do

    Belfast:

  • I live there (i.e. I’m being lazy and
    it suits me)

  • It’s somewhere new
  • 2 airports
  • Cheaper then Dublin
  • Fantastic city
  • Great weekend venue
  • Metric shitload of bars
  • Metric shitload of history (wanna see
    where the Titanic was built?)

  • Metric shitload of history
  • Metric shitload of things to do

    Any thoughts from anyone?  Would
you like somewhere new but still in Ireland?  (No politics or history
lessons please – we live here).  What do you think?

A hidden hero in the Lotus Community

This has been on my todo list for months.

If you were a notes "user" would this annoy you?

(Dons flameproof clothing)

Notes is a great product. Notes is a big, heavy client product. What is it like to load on a Mac? Take a look at the video below. I’m not concerned that it takes 40 seconds to load up fully. I just want it to load in the background.

Magic Prefs for the magic mouse

Jason Hook recommended
Magic Prefs
by Apple.
If you have a magic mouse, install it.  It makes it much more
functional.

The shitey mouse is gone. Trying magic for a change

With the year that is in it, I am keeping
gadget spending to a total (read:zero) minimum.   I have been dubious
about my "mighty mouse" from apple for quite a while.  The
right click works fine, but the scroll wheel sticks way too often.  I
was just tired of cleaning the bloody thing out.  Well today, the
mouse just froze, forcing me to close a shit load of apps and vms, links
and remote sessions to reboot.  I had enough.  To the Apple store.

I didn’t want to waste money on a mouse,
and the magic mouse has less functionality then the mighty one.
Aside from that, I’m old fashioned and did not want wireless tools.  But
now I own one.  It feels, and works nice.  No expose button but
I will live.  Apparently it is very addictive so time will tell.
