ILUG 2010 Surprise. Private bus tour for attendees

Folks, first surprise for ILUG2010 occurs after the speed-sponsoring on the Wednesday evening.  At 7.30pm, two buses from Belfast City Bus Tours will collect people from the hotel and bring you on a guided (and entertaining) bus tour of Belfast.    There are two busses booked so will take approx 150 people.  It’s first come – first served folks, so no gripes if you don’t get a seat.  Remember, it’s November in Belfast.  It will be cold, and possibly wet, so dress smart.  Tour will last about an hour and brings you back to the hotel/bar, where we will be waiting.

The cost… free.  It’s on me as a thank-you for giving your time.

ILUG 2010 agenda is out!

Yup – the ILUG agenda is now live and on the website.  If you start to browse through the massive amount of sessions, from brilliant speakers, and most excellent products (not to mention a seriously insane number of free gifts) and realise that you are not going, then shame on you.  Go face a corner and think about what you have done.  Then go register on the website and get your ass to ILUG.

Seriously, the session listing alone makes me not want to help run ILUG.  It just makes me want to attend.

The items not to include when making a business case for Lotusphere

Please feel free to add.

  • From the Friday evening to the following Thursday afternoon there is a social event of one type or another
  • It near some of the biggest theme parks in the world
  • The hotels are quite good
  • Lots.of.Beer
  • Blackberry party – enough said
  • Engineer party – also enough said
  • There will be people meeting to go running
  • There will be people meeting to go biking
  • Fantastic restaurants
  • One of the worst Irish theme bars I have ever seen
  • Did I mention beer?
  • Most of the beer is free
  • It is not uncommon to see people still in a bar at 2am, meet them in a hotel room at 4am, in the rotunda at the Dolphin at 5am and see them present on stage at 8.30am
  • Everything about Lotusphere is social.   By social I actually mean meeting people in the flesh and having conversations.  Not what you may think is “social” these days.
  • There is a seriously fun piano bar nearby
  • There is a karaoke bar nearby.  The bar staff remember people every year.  They class Lotusphere as one of their busiest weeks.
  • Sake.  To go with the beer.
  • Sleep is not an option for most of the week.
  • The vast majority of people are out to have a good time and enjoy themselves.
  • The vast majority of people are incredibly friendly, even if you think they are a complete dick from their online persona.
  • You will get into a conversation with a person and then only realise you have known them online for at least 8 months.
