Microsoft planning tablet release

Microsoft will announce a version of its Windows computer operating system that runs on ARM technology for the first time, said two people familiar with Microsoft’s plans.

Who can blame them, after the blazing success of Zune and (until WinMo7) the Windows Mobile platform

Having spent five minutes playing with a viewsonic vPad10 today I hope the release coincides with updates to the OS/UI.

There are some fairly major problems with it recognising where you’ve clicked. Menu items are way too close together to make selecting the right one reliable.

The best option was to use the usb connector (at least it has one) to get bluetooth and start using a mouse….

Apparently Apple spent years crafting an OS to suit the device, pity MS are trying to shoehorn their desktop OS on to similar platforms.

    Still early days….

Doh! Should have read that first :-) OK so they realise Win7 as it is doesn’t work well. Wonder if they’ll allow early adopters to get the new OS?

Perhaps they can build in functionality to let the user turn it upside down and shake like an Etch-A-Sketch for the inevitable post-crash reboots….
