This week, St Louis, IAMLUG and more

Tomorrow morning, I spend the Irish Bank Holiday on a plane to St Louis for IAMLug.  This is my second IAMLug and I am very much looking forward to meeting all the guys again.  After that, the Teamstudio Mobile Technology workshop will be held on Wednesday.  It’s gonna be a busy week.

See you all there.

iOS 4.3.5 out

I was all dizzy with excitement when “a new update” was available.  Nope… not iOS5 yet.

Sneaky new Lotus Notes 8.5.3 feature

You can now click on OK to make the startup “loading” picture disappear.  Useful while you are waiting the x seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks for the client to load.

Update:  This is looking like an OSX Lion feature, not a Notes 8.5.3 feature.  Verified by two different sources using OSX Lion and Notes 8.5.x (not 8.5.3).  This leads to two points:

1.  What the hell is OSX Lion doing that for?  This may not be a bad thing in this particular case, but it looks a bit product intrusive?

2.  IBM, I apologise for blaming the 8.5.3 beta.   Consider yourself forgiven for IBM Learning Management Server (well, almost).

Resizing windows in OSX Lion

Mac users will be delighted. Windows users will wonder what the fuss is about.

Installing OSX Lion

10.22pm.  Starting install.  I will let you know when I am done.

10.28pm.  Install finished and restarted.  So far so good.  6minutes to upgrade an operating system.  SSD FTW!

11:00pm. Only casualties so far are GoToMeeting 4.5 and JVM, which had to be re-installed for Lotus Notes to load.  New mail client experience is excellent so far.  Trackpad gestures are very good but need rework to suit my preferences (that took 30 seconds).  So far so good.  Using in anger tomorrow.

11:30pm.  Time Machine onto ReadyNAS does not seem to be working.  Was aware this may be an issue.  Will check see if update will be available from ReadyNAS tomorrow.

9:00am My ReadyNAS NV+ is still not compatible with Lion as it is Sparc based.  Newer models need to update to the latest version of firmware.  I have local drives for TM anyway if required.  But, this morning one of the ReadyNas jedi council tweeted this.

So hopefully not too long then.

Downloading

With my supercrappy virgin broadband ADSL link, this should be ready to install tonight at some stage.

The most incredible thing Fox News has ever done

To the good: they treat hacking as a problem and scandal. To the incredible/bad: they present their (now closed) UK sister publication News of the World as a victim of the hacking problem, rather than as a perpetrator.

Read this, watch the video.. and weep.

Thank you Declan

Declan Lynch was good enough to send me over his old iPhone 2g.  I never had this model, and wanted one for presentation/collection.  Very much appreciated sir.
