Bye bye Blackberry

Blackberry Enterprise Server and I go back a long way.  From working with version 2.x in 2003/04 to to 5.0.3 over the past 6 months.  I had blackberry connect running on my xda (windows phone) in 2005.  If only they continued to make software that would connect to different devices eh?  I wrote policy articles and moving BES server artices over the years.  Only 2 years ago, I presented on High availability on BES at Lotusphere.

Well, today I noticed that nobody in Bluewave was connected to the BES server anymore.  They either use Traveler or Google Apps for mail.  So the Bes/Bluewave server was quit, the services set to manual and the VM shut down.  When I think of all the mistakes RIM made over the past six years a conclusion is simple.  I don’t think they have made a right move over that time.  Shame.

I know that feeling as I also have watched clients BES go dark. We moved so many to Traveler. Still a few out there but they are slowing moving off them as well.

    I’m third…
Our company ‘migrated’ 190 out of 300 users to Android devices within the last two months. More still to follow most probably, although we’ll still keep BES (Mgmt. most probably as they’re used to it) -> That’s life ;-)

I think our production BES will be going dark in the next couple of weeks.

Services to manual and cross check.
