UNITED STATES 29 Jan 2013 NASA launches newest global communications satellite
NASA launches its newest Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-K) atop an Atlas 5 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida on Jan 29. It has been 10 years since the last launch for the network. The January deployment of the next generation spacecraft begins the replenishment of the fleet. The geosynchronous network 22,300 miles above Earth relays communications from the International Space Station, the Hubble Space Telescope and a range of other satellites in low-Earth-orbit.
