Archive for ND7

With ND7, its just the little things that make life that bit easier.

Go to the people view in the ND7 directory,
and what do you see as an action button?  Open mail file.  Lovely!

ND7 site completed

I forgot to mention this, but whilst
on leave, some people I know setup their own company (just 10 staff) and
asked me to get them off the ground from an IT perspective.  Well,
they bought the software and I went in and setup ND7 on their site and
they are all happily working away with limited knowledge of Notes but love
the replication feature and even a simple contacts database I created for
them.  I very much doubt its the first ND7 deployment, but with a
POINT-OH release, all worked well and the server happily works away with
no problems.

Yes I was on holidays

Yes I am a geek

No it didn’t take long

Yes I did it for free

Yes I am a nice guy

No I don’t do this for anyone

Thunderbirds are go with ND7

Mozilla Thunderbird has been tested
with Domino 7 by Lotus Support and no substancial issues have been found.
This could mean support for Thunderbird with ND7, which will keep
more Linux users happy.

An ND7 Wish fullfilled!

A few months back, I

for server names.
….   Well
guess what folks.  Load up your ND7 server and directory and its there…
Go on, take a look!

New Attachment screen in ND7 Beta 4

Hats off to Lotus.  At long last an attachment open screen users *should*
understand easily.

ND7 Beta 4 upgrade here…

The new title made me smile after upgrading my Notes client .  Upgrading
the server to Beta 4 was straightforward enough.  The upgrade partially
failed with errors:

"(Jul 12, 2005 10:14:47 PM), , com.installshield.wizard.platform.win32.Win32SelfRegisteringFiles2,
wrn, Error unregistering e:\Lotus\Domino\nlsxbe.dll – regsvr32 returned
exit code 3"

..Easy solution… In my haste I broke the golden rule of not rebooting
the machine after disabling the domino service before upgrading.  Still,
everything worked.  Unfortunately, the
ND7
issue with SMTP authentication

issues still causes issues.  I have
posted
this before
and there are some
workarounds, (and
Chris
Linfoot’s post
is very useful)
but simply reverting to the older web configuration on the server document
keeps everything working.

Overall, the upgrade was easy and worked flawlessly….  Its funny
that even though I have so much information kept on pmooney.net these days
(hidden and public), I didn’t bother running a full backup. That’s product
confidence!

May have been just me…  I only
upgraded my mail file template to ND7 today and noticed my mail rules stopped
working.  Easy solution.  Just disable and re-enable them and
they were fine.

Going to have fun with this feature.  In fact, my humble opinion is
this is a big sale feature for deploying Notes on sites, and is one I will
be heavily advertising.  Yep, with ND7, you can set policies as normal,
and these contain desktop settings as normal (which is where you can decide
what user preferences end users have on the client).  The difference
is now the administrator can decide if the user is allowed to change them.
Standards!!!!  Help desk easier, corporate look and feel easier,
default configurations for all!  And they can’t do a thing about it!
Hallelujah!

ND7 B2 bug (well, it is a beta!)

I only got around to upgrading my server
to ND7 B2 yesterday.  Soon after, I noticed no SMTP mail was inbound.
The error appearing on the console was

"SMTP Server: Authentication is
not enabled in the SMTP Internet Site Document for (blank)"

No SMTP authentication is enabled.  A
quick look-up and I noticed
this
thread
on the ND7 Beta Forum.
It does look like an RC bug.  Disabling the Internet Site feature
in the server document and going back to the older configuration resolves
the issue.  BTW, this aint a complaint.  Apart from that, the
beta is humming along nicely.  At least IBM are on schedule with their
releases.  Ed Brill has
a
lot to say
on the M$ Exchange
betas (or distinct lack of them).
