Its not often I post about passing exams, but I believe not many people have passed this one yet. And yes, it’s a bitch of an exam.

As Ed
mentioned, Fortune
have a free partial transcript
of an interview with Ray Ozzie and Bill Gates where they discuss email
and where they see it going. Not a bad read, but I draw exception
to Bill’s Stance on competitors.
"In terms of how we take workflow, collaboration, document search,
business intelligence, e-mail, and telephony and make them better for information
workers, we’re relatively unique."
Unique? Yes.
The Best? No.
Workflow, collaboration, document search? Notes has always been superior
on these levels, and continues to do so.
In addition, when asked about Open Office, Bills response is
"Well, most people already own Microsoft Office, and so it’s free
to them, whereas OpenOffice is not the same quality, not innovating, and
doesn’t have all the modules. We compete with our installed base by innovating.
"
Yeah… Microsoft Office is free, isn’t it?
Also, I think Bill
has innovation confused with acquisition…
As announced formally today, Lotus Instant
Messaging and Web Conferencing and Lotus Team Workplace have been renamed
(again)…
To Lotus Sametime and Lotus Quickplace.
Thanks be to jaysus.
Well
said Volker. Shall take
your advice totally……. after this small rant
Poor unprofessional report quoting statements
from unprofessional companies. Sometimes I wish I was as eloquent
as Richard. BTW – my opinion
(to which I am entitled). You can mail my boss if you want but I
don’t think you would get far. Apart from the obvious flame-throwing
at IBM, its just a poorly written report Mr. Lyons. And I am an
educated supporter of Notes, and don’t follow it for "this cause".
I will recommend the shoe that fits to a company.
This was much longer but it deserves
no more words.
Just a request for feedback by developers/admins. Our company just developed and brought this website live. We would appreciate any comments that are put forward.
The Policy based mail file upgrade feature of ND6.5 works, and works very well. From working on it a lot recently, I thought I would just outline the main points that cause issues to administrators when configuring this feature.
1. When creating/editing the desktop settings document, you specify the Release version threshold for the template. i.e., if a client is running version “x” of a client, upgrade to template “y”. The release version specified must match the version build specified in the “help / about” document. I have made an example configuration below:
2. This feature only applies to a client that has just been upgraded and will only work the first time it has been started. If you want this to work on clients that have been upgraded to 6.x already, you have to change the notes.ini of the client. Modify lines of the notes.ini to the following:
TemplateSetup=62
Setup=62
MailSetup=62
The moment you restart the client, it thinks it just been upgraded and then goes along and upgrades the mail files. Some thoughts on this though
Implementing this feature as an Organisational policy could be dangerous! Don’t get me wrong, its great but if you decide to apply this to a large amount of people and use an agent to modify the notes.ini on the clients, you could have trouble with the client upgrades happening all at once.
