UKLUG frenzy is picking up

It’s shaping up to be a very big, very
good event already.  Hundreds of people marching to Edinburgh as we
speak, all planning to converge in the Radisson for two days of Geekery.
A cursory search of twitter shows a people en-route already.

With Tripit, google latitude and twitter,
its hard for people to NOT know where you are these days.  I arrive
in EDI at 6pm approximagely, with Steve and Rob (plus Joan) McDonagh.  When
are you arriving?

Home from UKLUG

I flew back to Ireland on the Friday evening,
having to duck out early just before the final sessions wrapped up.  So
apologies to all those I did not get a chance to say goodbye to.  Feedback
from everyone was very positive.  Speakers, delegates and sponsors
alike got what they wanted over the two days.  Warren and the reset
of us organisers now just need some sleep!  London is always a great
place to work in, and filled with great people to work with.  If you
were one of the people that registered for the FREE event and didn’t bother
your arse to turn up or let Warren know you were not going to make it,
shame on you.  Expect a rather shitty email and (if I have my way)
to be waitlisted automatically on next years event.

Another point about UKLUG is that although
there may be "handbag at twenty paces" bitch-fests online, we
are all people with a common interest, beer Lotus software.
Looking forward to the next one!

Notes to self

When demoing Domino 8.5, don’t upgrade
your vmware software the morning of the session, with a hangover…..  Demo’s
did not work properly, but are working fine now for everyone.

Yes, this should be in Worst Practices…

Ed Brill at UKLUG Keynote

A picture named M2

Ed is giving his "state of the
nation" keynote at the moment here at
UKLUG.
 As well as discussing the

recent announcements
, he also
has emphasised that the large % growth of Lotus Notes licenses is nothing
related to revenue or currency exchange rate wizardry.  This is simply
a substantial amount of new seats on Lotus Notes/Domino.  Quite refreshing
to see it on screen, and this is feeding into the excellent vibe in the
UKLUG room.

En route to UKLUG

Currently on BMI flight from Belfast to
London Heathrow, which will be followed by the Heathrow express and a couple
of tube stops before getting to the hotel.  The crew from UKLUG are
already there, packing and organising at their own time and expense for
your event.  Memories of the work involved from ILUG come back very
quickly, and although I had a helping hand in UKLUG, this one is Warren’s
baby.  The agenda is excellent, with a compromise of business sessions,
case studies and technical sessions.  I have a camera with me so I’m
sure flickr will get involved throughout the 2 days.  Get ready to
gear  yourself up for long days of work, and the occasional drink.
Bill and I have a few drinks to catch up on, and need to plan our
submission for Lotusphere.  John Head is already there, and will as
ever valiantly try to make it look like Americans can drink (Us Europeans
find that amusing).  The Collaboration University bunch are hanging
on just to help out and speak.  Bob Balaban is hosting a European
version of Gurupalooza.  Ed Brill has flown over to give the Keynote.
Blackberry and Symantec have been excellent for us.   BE Systems
will be sponsoring breakfast on the Friday morning, so bring your hangover
with you!  As ever with the user group events, you get to see a bunch
of people that are not only excellent in their trade, but genuinely willing
to help anyone with questions.   ASW’s with a conscience, so to speak
;) .

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Please come up an say hi during the event.
