Preparing the Windows platform for the Installation of WPS

Tasks completed.

Part1
Part2

Next - get the OS ready before you commence the install.  This part is quite straightforward, and WPS is more forgiving in this version then earlier ones.  Try to keep the OS as clean as possible.
  • Ensure your machine has a fixed IP address
  • Ensure your machine has a FQDN (fully qualified domain name).  In my case, it is http://portal.demo.local.
  • Ensure the account you use for the install has local administrator rights.  In addition, note the following:
  • Click on Administrative Tools and Local Security Policy.  Select Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.  Add your admin account to the policy "Act as part of the Operating system".
  • Click on Administrative Tools and Local Security Policy.  Select Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.  Add your admin account to the policy "Log on as a service".
  • Keep the path statement of your server as low as possible.  WPS will add entries to the path statement during the install, and if the line exceeds 256 characters.. it will error during install.  If this is a challenge to you, there are tricks during the install to make life easier.  Change in the installation paths to short ones.. (e.g. c:\IBM\WPS as opposed to the full c:\program files\IBM...blah blah).
  • Disable Firewall or AV Software
  • Launch task manager so you can watch the install.

Stay tuned for installing...
