Firefox 2.0 hitting CPU?

Category

Just a question I am putting out there - has anyone else noticed that after upgrading to Firefox 2.0, it is consuming a lot of CPU power?  I am noticing fairly routine system freezing and it is bugging the hell out of me.

Update: Before posting, I did check for the known flash issues.  However, I didn't uninstall all extensions.  That is done now, but still no joy.  Will try uninstall the product and start from scratch.

1 - I'm running on OS 10.4 and FF2 and I have the same problem. It was the del.icio.us bookmarks extension. It's a shame, that's my favorite plugin by far. I never used del.icio.us until I found this extension.

2 - i do not have this issue with ff 2 but i have not upgraded: i made a "clean" install an after that i imported by bookmarks and re-installed extensions etc. FF is not famous for upgrading nicely

3 - No problems here. But I did have Firefox behaving the way you are describing a while ago. Turned out, it was one of the plug-ins. May the same is true in your case. Try disabling some plug-ins to track down the the problem.

4 - Why not come over to the dark side and give OPERA a try!!!

www.opera.com

Never had a problem with it and it this is the fastest browser in the work!!!

5 - If possible you should check if this is caused by Adobe Flash. Flash is well known for driving CPU to 100% especially if you do not use Internet Explorer.

6 - Also no problems...but also a "German" installation with some plugins...

7 - I noticed it after FF 2.0 upgrade as well.

I disabled all the extensions as a starting point - and it disappeared. I've started adding them back in and so far haven't hit the one(s?) that was causing that issue..I've been too busy to finish figuring out it which extension but it was definitely an extension for me..

P.S. PDF's can take awhile to load and drive up the cpu..but I've found I get control back eventually.

8 - I'd echo the other comments. If FF plays up, it's inevitably a rogue plug-in I find. I have FF2, and all is well (I did a clean install also -- the upgrade didn't work).

9 - I have upgraded and don't have that issue, on 3 systems right now (German edition, that came out some days ago)
