Everyone has a dumb day....
Category
Today was mine. A lot of people will be aware that this is the final week to get your finished presentations for Lotusphere to IBM. You may notice that certain blogs will be very quiet as a mild stage of panic sets in, getting stuff ready. Well, today was spent by myself working on the last part of my Domino/Sametime/Websphere Portal server integration lab session (which I will be giving with Kathleen McGivney).. So far, it stands at over 100 pages.
Our aim is to build on the work I started with the SNTT posts, and give a picture by picture guide on how to integrate the products, with the end point being able to open your iNotes email through WPS and have the sametime awareness applets working. For those that asked about the WPS posts I was working on; more will be on the way next week and I will put up a dedicated page where you will be able to download them all. I have plans for that this year, going well beyond the Lab at Lotusphere. Anyway, I digress...
The last part of the lab is getting Sametime awareness applets to work through WPS, using Single Sign on. I have done this before, and once you do it a few times, its easy... Well, not today! It just WOULDN'T work. No matter what values I checked, or how many changes I put through. Many thanks to Roberto Boccadoro from IBM (who is giving this session BTW) for helping me by asking the basic questions and taking time to suggest stuff. Just when I had lost all trust in anything I was touching... I noticed this:
But the stlinks.jar file is there.... No.. not even that complicated. Once I tested any STLINKS app, it was obvious. No JVM installed on the browser. 3 hours gone for something that stupid. Desk headbanging was a hobby for the following 20 minutes.
Doh!

you should know how many dumb days I had with this
As we discussed, is quite common to forget a single silly thing and this will wreack havoc on the setup. Though one can do this integration exercise many many times, there are so many things that have to be done in the correct order that is very easy to overlook something.
I believe the series of post you plan to make on this topic will be very useful for those planning to use Domino and Portal together.
