Has Skype ever fully recovered?

Category

Skype is now the primary IM client for me.  I like it.  A lot.  On August 16th, there was a major SNAFU that caused almost total service loss for everyone.  It took days to recover.  Just recently, I am wondering if it ever did fully recover.  Since then, I have frequently come across problems with seeing people on-line.  This happened before the crash in August, but was quite rare to me.  All too often I have to logout and back in again so people can see me, or vice versa.  Aside from that, I just noticed a few other quirks that seem to pop up.  Of course, this could easily be realted to the Mac client, or lepoard, but from talking to some people, I'm not convinced.

So, anyway, my question is, is it just me?

1 - I think Skype has had this problem since long before that outage. I frequently see people as offline when they are really online, and also see people as offline when they are really online. This is both before and after august 16, and with several versions of Skype.

2 - I think Skype is a superb chat client as well, particularly the ability to send messages to people who are offline and know that eventually they will make it through whenever they return. And Skype isn't even best known for chat!

That said, I've also had issues where I've either seen my wife online when her computer (a G4 ibook fwiw) has been asleep for days, or not seen her online when I'm looking at her computer and can clearly see she is. In the last several days, I've noticed a lot of the former, while I can remember the latter case occurring frequently several months ago.

Something else that may or may not tie into why Skype is confused is the fact that my wife is included in my "business" group, where I can allocate Skype credits to her via a web interface. Come to think of it, her sister overseas is also in that group, and I recall similar online/offline confusion with her as well.

Hmmmmm.
