A question for British Broadband users

Category

Can you guys recommend a broadband supplier in the UK (Northern Ireland) that would be good?  Do any of them offer fixed IP addresses?

As you can see from my email addy I use utvinternet { Link } as my ISP. They do what they say on the tin and always have. I have been with them since he days of 9.6k dial up. They have local 24x7 tech support in Belfast, who on the odd occasion I have had to ring them seem clued up and saavy. They aren't the cheapest but I have found no reason to leave them. An you can get a fixed IPs at an extra £2.50 a month. I suppose the fact that I have stuck with then for the last 10 years or so is a sort of recommendation :)

Most of my colleagues are either on BTINTERNET or one of the freebies.. like SKY, ORANGE or TALKTALK... BTInternet couldn't IMHO find their arse with both hands and a map, and the freebies well.. you get exactly what you pay for .. Nathing (as they say in BellFust)

Gravatar Image3 - I'm a bt business broadband user, and its pretty stable. Havent had to call tech support, so no opinion on that.

Zen internet were *really* good support wise, if a little pricey, and Tiscali were okay. All have fixed IP addresses.

Avoid freebies - especially Sky - I've heard some real horror stories..

Gravatar Image4 - Zen, 100% reliable, good support (both unlike BT my work broadband) and fixed ip at no cost

Gravatar Image5 - I am with Virgin Media (Originally NTL). The service has been great and I can get great speeds since it is cable. Not cheap and you need to be in a cabled area.

Not sure about fixed IP addesses.

Gravatar Image6 - Hey Paul

I'm with Virgin (formerly Telewest) and I see they cover N.Ireland unless I just google'd wrong.

I have a 20MB connection and it just works, constantly. It's cable so no matter how far from the exchange you are, you get a constant speed. I constantly get around 19MB down and very close to the suggested 768kbps up.

The IP address issuing has never changed the way it has always been (I've been with em 7 years) - the release/renew that occurs every few months, that you always end up with the same addy.

If you've just moved property/into a new area, then I'd look at my net with everything else needed in the house, as packages always seem to work out cheaper than buying separate services/products.

Hope that helps

Regards

Mark

Gravatar Image7 - Hi Paul,I have to agree with the above.
100 % Zen.. They are fantastic. Fast support, very stable.

Gravatar Image8 - I'm with IDNet { Link } who offer static IPs and a pretty good bandwidth allowance for £35 per month.

Gravatar Image9 - I would highly recommend Zen

Their support is great, they seem to win awards and you get 8 static IP addresses

Gravatar Image10 - Hi Paul,

I recently switched from BT to plus.net. They offer static IPs and came well recommended. Read my blog entry about it if you wish.

See you in June.
